What is jagua? Jagua is an organic ink that is made from fruit called the Jagua fruit, or also called Genipa Americana. The gel that is used by many artists is made from the highest quality organic ingredients, grown & imported from South American rainforest. When jagua juice or paste is applied to the skin, the gel deposits a blue-black stain on your skin that can last 1-3 weeks. Unlike permanent tattoo ink which inserts pigment underneath your skin, Jagua ink is often used by South American tribes as a natural means of skin decoration and for other medicinal purposes. The gel Jay's Henna Art sells & uses contains the following ingredients: Organic Genipa Americana Fruit Juice & Organic Xanthan Gum Please note that Jagua ink contains concentrated fruit juice, and it is not safe for individuals who are allergic to tropical fruits (especially berries), ingredients listed above. We also do not apply henna or 50/50 blend on skin surfaces that are broken, infected, has eczema etc. Please feel free to contact us personally for a patch test if you suspect that you might be allergic to Jagua at jayshennaart@gmail.com Let us know if you have any more questions about jagua and we would be happy to post a Q&A blog post and YouTube video with more information!

I was very fortunate to be asked to collaborate on another Spring photoshoot by a group of talented vendors from Calgary! Amrita, from Book Glow Beauty, asked if I would be available to collaborate with the talented team she put together. Of course I had to say yes. Amrita & I first met a couple years back on a Fall photoshoot that I had hosted and I loved her work! She is a very talented women and I was happy to receive another opportunity to work with her. I was asked to provide white henna to bring a pop of color that also complement the outfits and set. Amrita wanted to go for a Spring look with a Bride and Sister-of-the-bride theme. Mansha, from Lavish Bridal Couture, did a beautiful job choosing outfits that screamed Spring South Asian Bridal 2021! I loved the pastels that she chose. When I spoke to Mansha during the shoot, her vision is to encourage our Modern Brides to move away from red's and burgundy's and experiment with alternative color pallets that are lighter, softer, and are on trend with the color scheme of the particular wedding season. This year's bridal season is all about the pastels, and I love that Mansha dressed up our muse Harjot in a blush pink bridal lengha. Whilst complementing the bridal lengha, Mansha dressed out muse, Amrit, in a pale green lengha as the sister-of-the-bride. Mansha also mentioned that it is very common for the bridal parties to match with a certain singular color for weddings, but Mansha wants people to step out of their comfort zone and try to match a color pallet instead of a single color theme. Not only does this idea make for beautiful look but also stunning photos! I can't wait to see the final photos by Style Video Gigs! I have only heard great things and have seen their Instagram portfolio! I can not wait to share our work with you all! To see all the vendors that participated in this collaboration photoshoot, please scroll down to the list below! *Note: The following photos and videos were not provided by Style Video Gigs.

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a lovely day. I caved in and decided to try out the infamous Dalgona Coffee. It has become a Tik Tok and Instagram sensation. It is surprisingly so good! It tastes like an ice latte and it has definitely become an obsession for me to drink this every morning. I decided to stop after 4 consecutive mornings because it was a little too much sugar for me. I'm not used to having so much sugar in my coffees, but it is a really nice dessert coffee. I added the recipe down below for you to try out at home! super easy with ingredients you probably already have. I hope you enjoy it! Please comment and let me know how yours turned out! I had the opportunity and challenge to create a Hawaiian tribal inspired tattoo for a couple clients for their Canada Day party. this request definitely put me out of my comfort zone to design and apply a large scale jagua tattoo!
Before I could create these tribal tattoo for my clients, I did my research on Hawaiian tribal tattooing. I wanted to understand the history behind it and the meaning of this ancient art form to the indigenous Hawaiian people. I found that tribal tattoos, traditionally called kakau, originally represented the power and bravery individuals. The tattoo artists would draw into the skin of their clients by cutting the skin in the desired shapes and patterns, filling the opened skin with an ash-soot mixture, and letting it dry to leave a deep black color. This ancient tattooing method was quite painful and reserved for males, mostly. Every individual's tribal tattoo hold many possible a significant meanings such as life stories, struggles, and beliefs. To be respectful of the Hawaiian culture and history I had decided to avoid taking references of original tribal tattoos and instead creating my very own. I decided to create a design that was inspired by the ocean waves, native flowers, and common sea life found near the Hawaiian islands. My intention for these two pieces were to ultimately represent the beautiful nature of Hawaii! Please enjoy the photos down below! Jay Last November I was lucky enough to put together a Bridal Photoshoot with the following talented vendors!
Enjoy the photos of the BTS as well as the final photographs that were taken and edited by the talented Vaibhav Rao.
I had come across Sonika’s Henna Art through Instagram a few years back and I was mesmerized by her beautiful henna cookies! These colourful treats Sonika had decorated with icing inspired me to try it out myself! This is my first ever batch of henna cookies! I thought I would stick with a red background with white embellishments to keep with the Christmas holiday theme! I baked the sugar cookies and mixed the royal icing from scratch. It took a good chunk of time but I am definitely happy with the results! This order is now ready to be enjoyed by the sweet staff of Silvera for Seniors for their annual Christmas party!
I am definitely looking forward to making more of the beautiful looking treats! If you are looking for special and unique treats to enjoy with friend or family at a dinner party, wedding, or special event, then definitely order a batch of these cookies! They can be created to match any theme that you may desire! Happy Holidays! Jay |
